Lost in Her Own World
I was driving to the university where I worked, almost on auto-pilot, as I did this every day. I arrived on the college campus and came to a busy intersection located in the middle of the campus, which was shared by both the students and the traffic. I was first at the stop light at the intersection, with a large truck on my left in the turning lane. The truck was so large, I couldn’t see around it.
As I mentioned, I was lost in my own world, listening to music. Without thinking, I put my car in neutral at the stop light. Looking back on it now, I have no idea why I had that impulse – I never put my car in neutral at stop lights.
When the light changed, I pressed on the gas, but the car didn’t move. I was confused because I didn’t remember putting the car in neutral. I couldn’t understand why my car wasn’t moving.
Saved By a Guardian Angel
Just then, a student on a bicycle came barreling across the street in front
of me on the left, from the other side of the truck, running the light on red.
If my car had been in “drive” instead of “neutral”, I would’ve hit the bicyclist
broadside, or else the bicyclist would have hit me!
I’ll never know why I put my car in neutral and wasn’t even aware that I had done it. But I do believe that a guardian angel was either looking out for me or looking out for that student!”
